Next month, The Story of Chickens will debut in Lawrence, KS. This art project consists of a traveling coop on wheels, in which five heritage chickens will be displayed for one month, before being slaughtered publicly and fed to the community.
One of the aims of this project is “to create a daily interaction with animals on a communal level,” which is an idea I can stand behind, until it’s made clear that the daily interaction will only last a month, before we humans extract our absolute will on these defenseless creatures, and turn them into stew.
